New Fiesta ... WHATCAR? Car of the Year 2009 & Best Supermini
Mondeo ... WHATCAR? Best Estate Car & Best Family Car
It takes a very special car to impress the professionals at WhatCar?, but that's exactly what the new Ford Fiesta has done. Not only was it chosen Car of the Year 2009 but it also beat fierce competition to win the Best Supermini category too. WhatCar? judges praised the New Fiesta inside and out, stating that no other supermini got close to it's 'look at me' factor, the zingy 1.25 litre engine, nimble handling and strong grip combined to make it a 'brilliant winner...' they claimed. Let's take a closer look...
Style and Quality Inside and Out
New Fiesta catches your attention from first glance, the large inverted trapezoidal grille, powerful shoulder line, pronounced wheel arches and rising bodyline give it a purposeful, athletic stance that suggests energy in motion. The interior is a revelation of contemporary fashion combined with an ergonomic design that puts all driving, entertainment and communication controls at your fingertips. Screens, buttons and switches are simple to use, while warm ambient lighting together with carefully designed colours and fabrics create an inviting, comfortable and extremely stylish cabin.
The Choice Under the Bonnet
With a wide choice of engines and transmission you can choose your perfect balance of economy, power and low emissions or a mix of all three. Ford's proven 1.4 litre and 1.6 litre TDCi Duratorq diesel engine have been redesigned for improved performance and economy. The 1.6 litre engine comes with or without a coated diesel particulate filter (C-DPF), which automatically burns or cleans off exhaust particulates. Also available on the all new Fiesta ECOnetic is a specifically calibrated 1.6 litre 90PS engine with C-DPF. If you prefer petrol there's a choice of light alloy 16 valve powertrains from the economical 1.25 litre Duratec to the top-of-the-range 1.6 Ti-VCT producing a mighty 120PS. A manual five speed gearbox is available across the range, whilst automatic four speed transmission is available in the 1.4 petrol engine only.
Make it More Individual
With a choice of seven models starting with the Fiesta Studio from £9,995 through to the luxurious Fiesta Titanium from £13,395 and the sporty Fiesta Zetec S from £13,895 and a very comprehensive list of optional specification, Ford give you every opportunity to personalise your New Fiesta to suit your lifestyle precisely, but even the entry level Studio boats a standard spec that includes electric power assisted steering, front, side and knee airbags anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, tinted glass, twin chamber halogen reflector headlights, intelligent protection system, CD player, Ford easy fuel capless refuelling system and more.

At the 2009 What Car? Car of the Year Awards, the Mondeo scooped not one but two awards; Best Family Car and Best Estate Car. What’s more this is the second year in a row that the Mondeo has triumphed in both categories.
Mondeo is impressive without being flashy. At first sight Ford’s Kinetic Design gives Mondeo a sleek, dynamic and muscular profile, conveying a sense of energy,
power and grace.

A wide choice of engines and powertrains reinforces this promise. Diesel engines range from the 1.8 litre, Duratorq TDCi delivering 100PS and culminate in the awesome 2.2 litre Duratorq TDCi developing 175 PS – currently the largest and most powerful diesel available in our cars.
If you prefer petrol, again there’s a wide choice, from the 1.6 litre, 110PS Duratec to the mighty 220PS 2.5 litre Duratec.
Dependent on your choice of powerplant, the Mondeo can be specified with five or six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic.
